滚子链条由内链板、外链板、销轴、套筒和滚子组成。内链板与套筒之间、外链板与销轴之间为过盈配合。这样，外链板与销轴构成一个个外链节，内链板与套筒则构成一个个内链节；滚子与套筒、套筒与销轴之间为间隙配合。当内、外链节间相对曲伸时，套筒可绕销轴自由转动。而当链条与链轮啮合时，活套在套筒上的滚子沿链轮齿廓滚动，可以减轻链和链轮轮齿的磨损。
